About the wine

The 42 hectares of vines of Château Faugères, the actual flagship of Vignobles Silvio Denz, are located east of the pretty town of St. Emilion. The barren soils are characterized by limestone and are maintained according to the principles of organic farming. The cellar, created by Swiss star architect Mario Botta, quickly became known and famous as the “Cathedral of Wine.” Not only is the look right, ideal conditions have also been created for winemaking. Thanks to consistent use of gravity, the use of pumps can therefore be dispensed with. Temperature-controlled wooden vats are available for fermentation, and the wine is aged in French barriques. Since 1992, Michel Rolland has been advising the oenologists at Château Faugères and ensures the consistently high and unique quality of this Grand Cru Classé.

James Suckling: 94/100
Item no. 1220181
Tasting note
The vintage is both elegant and powerful and is already very promising in its youth. Ripe, dark fruits, vanilla and roasted oak on the nose. Harmonious on the palate with present but supple tannins and good structure and finesse.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with filet Wellington, venison, wild boar, beef stew
Vinification
In the cellar designed by Mario Botta, 50% of the wines are aged in new and one-year barriques for around 14 months.
